Today we are going to install part number 40455 from Hoppe. We are going to install this on a 2005 Ford Escape. This particular vehicle has a tow package. Not all vehicles come with a tow package but this one does so we will show you what to look for if yours does. To find the Tow Package port it is on this bracket facing the inside of the bumper. It is a pain to see so you have to kinda feel around for it while looking for it. You pull it loose then remove this little cap here. Then our part comes with a little bit of dielectric grease. Go ahead and squirt some of that on the plug. It will not take much just put a little bit on. Then you can press it back together. Then the rest of this will go out to your hitch. At that point take your excess wire and zip tie it to whatever you can behind the bumper. Leave what you need out for your trailer hitch. I like to leave it right by the chain here and zip tie it behind this bracket here. That way if you ever need excess it will be easy to get too.
Since we are running it behind the plastic we are going to undo these torque fittings. Then tuck it behind the plastic there. Now at this point we can go ahead and put the tail light back together. Next we can go along and remove all the fittings along the back plastic. You can also take off this trim a little bit and make it just a little looser. Give us a little more room to tuck the wire into. You will need a screwdriver to pull back the plastic a little bit and push the wire in behind it at the same time. After you make sure you have everything set the way you want you can go ahead and tighten it back up. Go ahead and take our right turn signal apart and take up your excess here then you can zip tie it to itself and reinstall this light. Now we can go back underneath and tie up the wires and converter box as well.
There is a nice flat spot back behind the bumper here. You will want to attach the converter box to it with the double sided tape. So to make sure it sticks we are going to wipe that down and attach the converter box there. Then we can run our wires across back behind the bumper and bracketry. Pull that through and loop that around the chain. Then we will take your excess and and tie it up to itself behind the bumper. Then snug up with tie tie behind it. Not to tight however in case we need to pull some extra out for more lee way. There you have it for part number V30130.
All we do is run this wire around the bracket here and make it go back against it self with the excess and just use the zip tie to hold it into place. Then further up the line there is a hole on the bracket we can use to zip tie that. To keep that from moving around also. Also to protect the terminals it might be a good idea to add some dielectric grease in there as well. Just a little dab not too much. You can wrap it 2 times around the chain holder if you need too. There you have it for part number 40455 from Hoppe.
